I want to compliment you on the good job that you did explaining the details of the uneducational bill that the Florida Republican legislature passed. However, it seems to me that there might be a Machiavelian plan, or two, behind this legislation that this paper did not mention. Is it possible that the real reasons that the Republicans have in pushing the bill are twofold: trying to destroy the teachers union, and mis-educating the children. Union members usually are not the citizens that vote Republican, so destroying the teachers union advances the Republican electoral strategy. Judging teaching achievements by "merit" and accomplishing it by relying on tests, will force the educators to teach to the examinations, which will consist largely on material that has already been gone over in the classroom. And I wonder if this is designed so that the pupils will not be taught to think, but only to remember past lessons. The generation that will graduate from the school system if this is signed into law by the Governor, will lack the the ability to see beyond political manipulations, as they will not be taught how to think for themselves. And maybe that this is the purpose of this legislation by lawmakers that believe that the misinformed and under-educated citizen is the one more likely to vote for them. |
